Hi, Friend,
Happy New Month 💜
How was your July?
I was busy administering terminal exams to my pupils and brushing up my poem portfolio. I figured it would be best to get my poems ready for submission this August.
Right now, I am working on Behind A Father's Name. It is a beautiful project that is exposing me to issues I never thought of. One of those issues being the challenge of not being truly from a place. I now wonder, if the American kid born in Nigeria feels as I do when I travel and someone asks me where I am from. Most times, I cannot really say because my parents are of different ethnicities.
I wonder if they travel to their country of origin and cannot really fit in because there is too much Naija in their blood. I wonder if they do not feel it when Nigerians still look at them in awe when they go to markets or public places.
I wonder.
This August, I want to focus on finishing ten books. I will be sharing my journey on Instagram.
